⭐ Another 5-Star Review for Skol Knives! There’s nothing better than hearing great feedback from a happy customer — and I’ve just received another 5-star review on my Etsy shop! The customer said they would “recommend this seller – great product and customer service.” It might seem like a few simple words, but reviews like this mean the world to me. Every knife I make is hand-finished with care, from grinding the blade to shaping and oiling the handle. I take pride in making sure each customer gets a knife that looks great, feels right in the hand, and performs flawlessly in the field. Customer service is a big part of what I do. A Closer Look at My Damascus Hunting Knife with a Beech Handle There’s something deeply satisfying about crafting a knife that feels just right — the balance, the weight, the way the handle sits in your hand, and the way the blade cuts. This Damascus hunting knife with a beech handle is one of those builds that really brings everything together — beauty, strength, and function in one piece. The Blade: Strength and Character in Every Layer The heart of this knife is its Damascus steel blade. There’s nothing quite like Damascus — it’s instantly recognisable by the natural wave patterns that run along the surface. Each swirl tells the story of folded and layered steels, forged together under heat and pressure to create something stronger than either steel could be alone. I’ve always loved working with Damascus because it combines performance and personality. Every blade has its own pattern — no two are ever the same. This one has a beautifully even grain with a subtle ripple effect that c...

Why We’re Adding Blogs to the Skol Knives Website – and Why It Matters At Skol Knives, we’ve always believed that a good knife tells a story — from the steel it’s forged from to the hands that craft it. Now, we’re taking that same philosophy and applying it to our website by adding blogs. So why are we doing it? Simple — to connect, share knowledge, and grow our reach. Adding blogs helps more people discover Skol Knives through search engines. Each post about our knife steels, builds, commissions, and outdoor use adds valuable content that boosts visibility online. The more we write about what we do — knife making, bushcraft, hunting blades, and custom commissions — the easier it is for customers to find us. But it’s not just about SEO. It’s about sharing the craft. We’ll be posting about everything from heat treating and steels like 1095, 80CrV2, and AEB-L, to behind-the-scenes looks at how our knives are made. We want to bring you closer to the workshop and give you a feel for the ca...

12C27 Bushcraft Knife with Oak Handle – Handcrafted by Skol Knives There’s a certain satisfaction in using a knife that’s been built by hand and made to last. This one’s a perfect example — a compact yet tough bushcraft and hunting knife crafted from 12C27 stainless steel and fitted with a beautiful oak handle. 12C27 is a high-quality Swedish stainless steel known for its excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance, and fine grain structure. It sharpens easily and holds a razor edge, making it ideal for outdoor work where reliability really matters. Whether you’re carving, preparing food at camp, or field dressing game, this blade won’t let you down. The oak handle gives it a warm, traditional feel — smooth in the hand but with just enough texture for grip. Each handle is shaped and finished individually, highlighting the natural grain of the wood and giving every knife its own unique character. Like all my knives at Skol Knives, this one is built to be used — not just admired. It’s...

Bushcraft vs Hunting Knives – What’s the Difference? One of the questions I’m asked most often is, “What’s the difference between a bushcraft knife and a hunting knife?” On the surface they might look similar – both are fixed blades, both tough as nails – but the real difference comes down to purpose, shape, and steel. At Skol Knives, every blade I make is designed with function in mind, whether you’re carving feather sticks or field dressing game. A bushcraft knife is your all-round outdoor tool – think carving, batoning, making fire prep, and general camp work. You want a strong, simple edge that’s easy to sharpen in the field and can take a beating without chipping. For that, I often use 1095, 1084, or 80CrV2 steel. These high-carbon steels hold a wicked edge and are perfect for tough bushcraft use. Just a quick oil and they’ll last a lifetime. A hunting knife, on the other hand, is a bit more refined. It’s designed for clean, controlled slicing and skinning, not chopping wood or st...

The Heart of Every Skol Knife – The Steel When it comes to making knives, I believe the steel is everything. At Skol Knives , every blade is handmade here in the UK with care, precision, and a focus on real-world performance. I use only proven steels that I trust through years of making and testing knives. For my bushcraft and outdoor knives , I work with 1095 , 1084 , and 80CrV2 – tough, high-carbon steels that hold a razor-sharp edge and can take serious use in the field. These are perfect for anyone who needs a strong, reliable blade for camping, carving, or survival work. If you prefer stainless steel , I use SF100 , AEB-L , and 440C – all excellent choices for custom hunting knives , EDC knives , and kitchen blades . They’re easy to maintain, corrosion-resistant, and still deliver great edge retention. Every Skol knife is heat treated by hand , carefully ground, and finished to bring out the best from each steel type. Whether you’re after a rugged bushcraft tool or a cle...
