Every now and then a knife comes together that feels a little more special than the last. This latest Skol Knives skinner is one of those.
The heart of the handle is genuine mammoth tusk – a material that began its journey thousands of years ago during the Ice Age. No two pieces are ever the same, with natural colours and grain that make every knife completely unique. Carefully paired with black limba, the contrast between ancient ivory and rich timber creates a handle that's both elegant and comfortable in the hand. Fossilised mammoth tusk has long been prized by custom makers because it offers a legal, historic material unlike anything else available.
The blade measures 85mm and is crafted from 3mm Silver Fox 100 stainless steel, chosen for its excellent edge retention, corrosion resistance and dependable field performance. It's a knife built to work, whether you're processing game, heading into the woods or simply appreciating fine craftsmanship.
I called this knife Ice Age Hunter because it combines modern performance with a material that has survived since the time of the mammoths. It isn't just a cutting tool – it's a piece of natural history you can carry and use.
At Skol Knives, my aim has always been simple: create handmade knives that are built to be used, but beautiful enough to become heirlooms. I think this one achieves exactly that.
